Always ice after an acute injury.

Never heat an injured part that is warm and swollen. If you are using heat and ice in conjunction with activity, exercise, or sport, a good rule of the thumb is "WARM UP" (before) and "COOL DOWN" (after).

Remember: "RICE"

  R = rest

  I = ice 10-15 minutes
          (no more than once per hour)

  C = compression
          (tensor around area with gentle wrap)

  E = elevate

These guide you after an injury.

Heed the warnings of pain and swelling in your hand and wrist and consult your doctor and/or hand therapist to help you know when to rest or move the injured part.

Certified Hand Therapists are highly skilled in evaluating and treating upper limb conditions. Treatment is individualized to your specific diagnosis and need.
